EF 50mm f1.4 USM

introduced 1993

The Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM, is a ‘standard’ lens which neatly fills the gap between the EF 50mm f1.8 and the EF 50mm f1. It offers superb optical performance combined with high resolving power and contrast. Colour balance is excellent and its large maximum aperture produces a soft, pleasing, blur effect outside the plane of focus.

Full-time manual focus allows the lens to be focused manually at any time without the need to switch out of AF mode. Closest focusing focusing distance is 45cm.

The EF 50mm f1.4 is constructed of 7 elements in 6 groups. By optimal distribution of refraction between the front and rear groups, the designers have suppressed the flare sometimes associated with large aperture lenses. In addition, the use of high-refraction glass has eliminated astigmatism and achieved superior image flatness.
