EF 400mm f5.6L USM

introduced 1993

This lens continues Canon’s policy of developing compact telephoto lenses for keen amateur and semi-professional EOS users. Despite the power of its long focal length, it also offers convenience and portability. In fact it’s light enough for mobile, handheld shooting.

Optimised lens construction (7 elements in 6 groups), ensures excellent image sharpness without aberration, throughout the focusing range from 3.5m to infinity. Meanwhile, chromatic aberrations are effectively cancelled out by the use of two elements made of super ultra-low dispersion glass.

Rear focus design (moving the rear lens group towards the film plane), allows the built-in USM motor to achieve consistently accurate, high-speed results. Full manual override is also provided, without the need to switch out of AF mode. A built-in lens hood locks into place when extended.
