EF 300mm f4L USM

introduced 1991

The EF 200mm f2.8L USM is a large-aperture telephoto, designed as a moderately priced high-performance lens.

This addition to the EF line-up gives a choice between two 200mm lenses. The EF 200mm f2.8L USM is a moderately-sized lens which is easy to carry. The EF 200mm f1.8L provides a wider aperture for shooting in low-light conditions.

The Ef 200mm f2.8L USM uses a new optical design which compensates for spherical aberration produced by changes in focusing distance. This greatly improves picture quality at middle and close distances, where reduced imaging perforce is common.

Two UD (ultra dispersion) elements in the optical system (9 elements in 7 groups) reduce residual chromatic aberration and the design minimises off-axis aberration. The large maximum aperture allows range finding with the vertical focusing sensor of the EOS 1 cross-type BASIS.

The EF 200mm f2.8L is compatible with the Canon EF 1.4x and 2x Extenders, allowing autofocus operation at 280mm f4 and 400mm f5.6. Use with the EF 2x Extender at 600mm f8 is possible with manual focusing.
