Canon EOS 50D and
EF-S 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 IS launch
26 August 2008

Just 12 months after the introduction of the EOS 40D, Canon has launched the EOS 50D.

There is a 50% increase in resolution, from 10.1 to 15.10 megapixels. The maximum burst in continuous shooting has increased from 75 to 90 JPEGS. The maximum ISO setting is now 12800, rather than 3200.

New features include a HDMI connection for high quality viewing and playback on high definition televisions, plus Face Detection Live AF.

Also new is the Creative Auto shooting mode. This goes a step beyond Full Auto (Green Square) mode, allowing users to make adjustments before shooting while still in automatic mode.

Launched at the same time is the EF-S 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 IS lens, compatible with the EOS 50D and other models with the EF-S mount. It has a 4-stop image stabilizer to help reduce the effects of camera shake at the telephoto end of its 11x zoom range.
