As usual, the issue is packed with information. The technique section includes articles on autofocusing, photo printing, flower photography, Extenders, fisheye lenses, Speedlite zoom and CompactFlash cards. There's also a portfolio of superb underwater images and an interview with the picture editor of The Times.
An easy-to-enter competition offers the chance to win an EF 15mm f2.8 Fisheye lens worth £590.
If you are not already a subscriber, you can subscribe online and claim a free back issue.
Subscribe now without any risk. If the magazine does not meet your needs, simply let us know within 30 days of receiving your first issue and we will refund your subscription fee in full. There is no need to return the magazines.
Firmware page change
On page 75 of the July-September 2006 issue of EOS magazine we mention firmware updates for EOS digital cameras. Unfortunately, the web page reference we give is no longer valid. If you want to download firmware software for your camera, the most convenient link is on the EOS magazine web site news pages.
Previous EOS-mail newsletters now online
After some delay, we now have previous issues of EOS-mail posted on our website. Each new newsletter will be added within a day or two of publication. This means that you can delete each e-mail newsletter after reading it, safe in the knowledge that the information is readily available, should you need to refer back to it.
Keep in mind that some of the content is very topical and may now be out of date.
You can reach the archive from the newsletter link on the home page, or go directly to it at EOS-mail archive
Canon strengthens London/Tokyo connection
Canon Europe has strengthened its art and culture sponsorship portfolio by becoming Platinum Patron of the City of London Festival 2006.
In addition to sponsoring the festival itself, which this year will focus on celebrating the London/Tokyo connection, Canon is the sole sponsor of one of the Festival’s highlights - Yoko Ono’s stunning art installations which are being showcased in St. Paul’s Cathedral.
The City of London Festival runs from 26 June to 13 July 2006. Details of the many events taking place are on the City of London Festival website
Canon most trusted camera brand in Europe
Canon has been named most trusted brand for cameras for the sixth consecutive year in the Reader’s Digest European Trusted Brands Survey 2006. This is one of the broadest pan-European surveys of consumer attitudes towards brands.
Reader’s Digest asked over 25,000 of its readers in 14 European countries to nominate the brand they trusted most in a range of consumer categories, including cameras. Over 317,000 votes were cast across the product categories with over 112,000 different brands nominated.
Canon was one of only five brands that were nominated as ‘most trusted’ in 10 or more countries. In addition, in every country respondents gave Canon a higher than average score for quality, a factor that is significant as the most important criteria for trust across the 14 countries was ‘high quality’.
The countries in which Canon was nominated as most trusted brand in 2006 were Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland and the UK. Brands leading other categories included globally recognised names like Nokia (mobile phones), Nivea (skincare) and Visa (credit cards).
In further recognition of the power of the Canon brand, in 2005 Canon was named in the top 10 in the Interbrand Annual Survey of the World’s Most Valuable Brands.
