Search our website
We have added a search facility to our website (www.eos-magazine.com). You will find it in the top right of almost every page. Type in a word or phrase and you will be given a list of all the matching documents on the site. It is often quicker to search than to navigate through various levels. Useful tip: don't include the word 'EOS' in your search. The initial search will be on any of the words you enter into the search field, and EOS appears on almost every page! If you are searching for information on, say, the EOS 350D, just type 350D to receive a list of relevant pages. Once you reach the search report, you can fine tune your search.
Complete camera guide
We are still in the process of converting some of the pages of our original website to the new design. The camera pages are almost ready and should be uploaded in the next couple of weeks.
ZoomBrowser links
Following the article on ZoomBrowser 5.0 in the March 2005 issue of EOS magazine, we had a lot of messages from readers who could not find the upgrade files. Here are the links you need.
ZoomBrowser 5.0 for Windows
ZoomBrowser 5.0 for Macintosh
Digital Photo Professional upgrade
Canon's DPP software has also been upgraded to version 1.6.1. This version gets rid of a line which appeared along the bottom of the image when converting RAW images from certain cameras using some computers. If your are on version 1.6.0 and have not encountered the problem, you may not want to upgrade. However, if you are still on versions earlier than 1.6.0, the upgrade will give copy stamp and rename tools, plus additional camera support for RAW images from the EOS 350D and D60. Here can find the upgrades at:
DPP 1.6.1 upgrade for Windows

IS lenses on tripod
We have also received a number of queries about using image stabiliser lenses on tripods. If the IS function is left on, will the lens be damaged? The simple answer is no. The complicated answer is that, with some lenses, the lack of movement can confuse the IS system, leading to unwanted movement of the IS floating elements. This will give a twitchy viewfinder image - but no damage is caused to the lens. More recent IS lenses overcome the problem by automatically switching off the IS system if no movement is detected. Keep in mind that less sturdy tripods might still allow some camera movement, especially in high winds. So the best practice is to leave the IS function on unless there is unexpected movement of the image in the viewfinder.
