Type and major specifications
Type: 35mm autofocus, single-lens reflex camera with electronically-controlled automatic exposure, focal plane shutter and built-in motor drive.
Format: 24x36mm.
Usable Lenses: Canon EF lenses (full aperture metering only).
Lens Mount: Canon EF mount (electronic signal transfer system).
Viewfinder: Fixed eye-level pentaprism. Gives 92% vertical and horizontal coverage of actual picture area and 0.8x magnification at infinity with a 50mm f1.8 lens.
Dioptric Adjustment: Built-in eyepiece is adjusted to standard -1 diopter. (Eyepoint: 6.2 inch/16.0mm).
Focusing Screen: Overall new laser-matte screen with AF frame.
Mirror: Quick-return half-mirror.
Viewfinder Information: Displayed at the bottom of the viewing area.
• AF in-focus symbol: Lights up when AF is possible. Blinks at 8 Hz when AF is not possible. In Depth-of-Field Modes, blinks at first and second in-focus. Blinks at 4 Hz when the subject is out of the focus zone.
• Exposure symbol: Lights up for correct exposure. Blinks at 2 Hz for camera-shake warning. Blinks 8 Hz for out of coupling range warning.
Shutter: Electronically controlled vertical-travel focal plane shutter.
Shutter Speed: 1/2000-2 sec. X-sync speed is 1/125 sec.
Self-Timer: Electronically controlled with a 10 sec. delay. Self-timer operation is indicated by beeper tone. (At 2 Hz for 8 secs. from the start, then at 8 Hz for 2 secs.).

Autofocus
AF Control System: TTL-SIR (TTL secondary image registration) phase-detection type using BASIS (base-stored image sensor). AF in-focus symbol lights in viewfinder and short beeper tone emits. Beeper tome cannot be turned off. When AF is impossible, in-focus symbol blinks at 8 Hz.
Focus Mode:
• One Shot modes: AF operation ends and focus is locked once ranging is completed. Shutter can be released upon completion of ranging.
• Manual: By rotating the manual focusing ring after focus mode switch is set to ‘M’.
AF Working Range: EV 1-18 at ISO 100.

Exposure control
Light Metering System: TTL full aperture metering using SPC: Evaluative metering.
Exposure Modes:
• Intelligent Program AE.
• Depth-of-Field AE.
• TTL program flash AE, automatic fill-in flash and automatic flash at low-light level.
• A-TTL program flash AE
Camera-Shake Warning: When automatically-set shutter speed falls 0 to 0.5 steps below 1/focal length of the lens in use, ‘P’ blinks at 2 Hz. No camera-shake warning when dedicated flash is used.
Metering Range: EV 0-20 with 50mm f1.4 at ISO 100. (EV 3-20 in high temperature and humidity).

Film Transport
Film Speed: ISO 25-3200 is automatically set in full steps according to DX code. For non DX-coded film, set t ISO 25.
Film Transport: Pre-wind system.
Film Loading: Automatic. After film positioning and back cover closure, the film automatically advances to the end of the roll and then stops (approx. 14 secs. with 24 exposure film).
Film Wind: Automatic using a built-in miniature motor. Continuous mode only. Single exposure mode with Depth-of-Field shooting. Confirmation by frame counter.

Power source
Battery: One 6v lithium batter pack (2CR5) supplies power to body.
Battery Check: By rotating the selector dial to the battery check position. OK: at 8 Hz, have a new battery handy: at 2Hz, no tone: battery exhausted.
