Canon's entry-level AF SLR, with a full range of AF and other automatic features, but no manual control. Not sold in USA or Japan. Sold in Asia as the EOS 888.

Type: 35mm focal plane shutter SLR (Single-Lens Reflex) autofocus/auto exposure camera. EOS-888 for Asia and EOS 5000 for other markets. QD version is available too.
Lens Mount: Canon EF Mount (electronic signal transfer system).
Usable Lenses: Canon EF lenses.
Viewfinder: Fixed eye-level pentaprism. Gives 90% vertical and horizontal coverage of actual picture area and 0.70X magnification with 50mm tens at infinity. Center AF mark, wide AF frame, and partial metering circle. Three LEDs for in-focus indicator, AE, and flash ready.
Standard Dioptre: Adjusted to - 1 dot
Focusing Screen: Fixed, full surface new laser matte screen with AF frame and partial metering mark.
Shutter: Vertical-travel, focal plane shutter with all speeds electronically controlled
Shutter Speed: Selectable 1/2000 - 1/8 sec scales and B (bulb) mode. Operative from 1/2000 - 2 sec (full auto mode). X-Sync is 1/90 sec. Mirror: Quick-retum half-mirror

Autofocus
AF Control System: TTL-SIR (Secondary Image Registration) phase detection type using 3 points cross-type BASIS (1+1).
Two modes available: One-shot and AI Servo with Focus Prediction that automatically switches to One-shot and Al Servo according to subject. Manual focusing also possible.
AF Working Range: EV1.5 - 18 at ISO 100
AF Auxiliary Light: Built-in AF auxiliary light fires automatically when necessary.

Exposure Control
Light Metering: TTL full aperture metering using a 6-zone SPC (Composite Silicon Photocell). Two metering patterns available : 6-zone evaluative metering, central partial metering which covers approx. 9.5% of the finder area. Shutter speed-priority AE, Intelligent program AE, and four Programmed Image Control modes set with a dial.
Metering Range: EV 2-20 with 50 mm f/1.4 lens at ASA 100.
Film Speed Setting: Automatically set according to DX code (ISO 25 - 5000)

Film Transport
Film Loading: Film transport with the built-in motor. Automatic prewind system. Align film leader at mark, then close the camera back for prewind loading. First, the entire roll is wound on the take-up spool. Then each time a picture is taken, the film advances back into the cartridge. After film positioning and back cover closure, the film automatically winds to the end of the roll and stops.
Film Wind: Automatic. One of two modes is automatically set: Single Frame and Continuous (1 fps maximum).
Film Rewind: Automatically rewinds at end of roll. Mid-roll rewinding is possible.
Frame Counter: Provided. Counts down on external LCD panel (counts up during prewind loading).
Multiple Exposures: Possible, Maximum 9 exposures only

Built-in Flash
Type: Retractable, TTL automatic exposure flash housed in the pentaprism By-pass control system.
Guide Number: 39-ft/12-m at ISO 100
Recycling Time: Approx. 2 sec -
Flash Coverage Angle: Covers the held of view of 50mm standard EF lens.
Flash Fixing: Automatic in backlit or low-light conditions in AUTO or no firing in OFF mode.
Flash Duration: 1 ms or less.
X-Sync Shutter Speed: Fastest sync speed 1/90 sec.
Flash Control System: TTL automatic control by metering light reflected from the film plane.
Shooting Distance Range: 3.29 -12.50 ft / 1-3.8m (Based on ISO 100 print film. The shooting distance range changes according to film speed.)
AF Auxiliary Light: Automatically emitted when the shutter button is pressed halfway when necessary. Effective distance range: 16.43 ft/5m.

Others
Camera Shake Warning: Operates in Green Zone and Programmed Image Control modes.
Red-Eye Reduction Function: Applicable for all shooting modes.
Self-Timer: Electronically controlled with a 10-sec. delay with beeper tone. The built-in electronic self-timer (with blinking Red-Eye reduction lamp).
Multiple Exposures: Possible, Maximum 9 exposures only

Power Source
Battery: Two 3 V CR123A lithium batteries supplies power to body and built-in flash.
Optional Power: SOURCE (with Battery Pack): Four LR6 Alkaline AA batteries 6 volts or four KR 15/51 Ni-Cd AA batteries 4.8 volts
