JOBO photo GPS £173.99 accurately, and take some photos. The unit uses GPS technology to pinpoint your position, recording the information to its internal memory. The PhotoGPS spends most of its time asleep, and is activated by an electronic pulse delivered through the hotshoe contacts when you take a photo. It then returns to sleep mode, conserving memory space and battery power. When you attach the unit to your computer with the supplied USB cable, Jobo’s PhotoGPS software matches your photos to the recorded locations. The push of a button embeds the GPS co-ordinates into the photo’s EXIF data, where they will be recognised by other programs such as Digital Photo Pro, Picasa and Google Earth. The program works with JPEG, TIFF and RAW files. GPS data is directly embedded into JPEG and TIFF files, or added as a sidecar file (.XMP) to RAW files. For photographers that need to use either the built-in or an external flash, the PhotoGPS 10 | 11 can be mounted on an optional bracket and connected to the camera with a flash sync cord. The PhotoGPS also has a handy Geohint button. Pressing the button records the location regardless of whether a photo is taken or not. Use it before entering a building, where the GPS signal may be cut off, and the software estimates the likely location from the data recorded by the Geohint button. The PhotoGPS comes with a USB cable, a Quick Start guide and a CD with Jobo’s PhotoGPS Matching software for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X.
